Yuko is a Japanese actress based in Helsinki, Finland with a dynamic career spanning theatre, TV, film, and various performing arts since 2009.
In Finland she has a long working history with independent theatre companies such as Myllyteatteri and Post Theatre Collective. She has also performed at Tampereen Työväen Teatteri and GLIMS & GLOMS dance company. Her numerous international theatre projects were carried out in Japan, Portugal, Macedonia, Scotland, and Poland.
Her selected TV/film credits include Minako Peri in SYKE (2023-), AK in Kaverikirja (2022) and Coroner in “Dual” (2022).
Yuko’s versatile work extends to collaborations with artists across disciplines. She has performed improvisational experimental music concerts with acclaimed accordionist Timo Kinnunen and appeared in the art film Ohikulkija (Passerby), directed by visual artist Elena Näsänen. She was the lead performer in the mixed reality game project Antroposeeni and recently took part in the experimental chamber opera project Thousand Times Yes (2021–22) alongside artist Essi Kausalainen, composer Marja Ahti, and librettist Jenny Kalliokulju.

Yuko is also a creator of original works, having written plays and solo performances such as “Deep- the musical” (2018), “Dreams in the Closet (2014)” and “Journey of an Outsider (2012).”
– TEACHING
Yuko is an experienced teacher of Suzuki Method of Actor Training and Viewpoints. She has given workshops and courses at Ylioppilasteatteri, Ilmaisverstas, Kokkolan kaupunginteatteri, Teatteri metamorfoosi, Theatre Academy (teatterikorkeakoulu), Kulttuurikeskus Caisa, TeaK Open University and Työväen akatemia.
Yuko is also a certified teacher of The Miller Voice Method® (mVm).
– Music (portfolio)
In 2013, Yuko won Finland’s national singing competition OurVision. Following this achievement, she founded her band Elena’s Idea, where she serves as lead vocalist, bassist, and composer. She has also composed original music for theatre productions.
– EDUCATION
Yuko holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma (2004) and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville (2007). She completed an acting apprenticeship at Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Kentucky (2007–08). Additionally, she trained in Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method with SITI Company in New York and Chicago. In 2008, she deepened her Suzuki training at SCOT (Suzuki Company of Toga) in Japan.
Yuko earned a master’s degree in Theatre Pedagogy from Theatre Academy, Helsinki (2018).
She is also a dedicated student of renowned martial artist and movement coach Akira Hino and translated his books “Kokoro no katachi- The Image of the Heart” in 2013 and “Don’t Think, Listen to the Body!” in 2017.
